    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Why do basically good people sometimes act in unethical or illegal ways? And once they realize their behavior is wrong, why do they sometimes repeat the unethical actions?  Drawing upon the psychological literature review assembled by Robert Hoyk and Paul Hersey (The Ethical Executive, 2008) and recent events,   this mini-conference (seminar) will explore the situations and circumstances that prompt people to act in unethical ways and the psychological dynamics that allow or even encourage people to repeat unethical behavior.

    PROGRAM AGENDA AND OBJECTIVES

Acknowledge the typical approaches to addressing ethics in the workplace

Review the basic terminology, determinants and logic associated with ethical and unethical conduct

Explain the categories of “traps” that prompt people to act unethically

Explore 20 reasons good people sometimes do “bad things” (The “primary traps”)

Identify 17 reasons why unethical behavior is repeated (The ‘defensive traps”)

Raise the controversial issue of whether some personality traits make people more vulnerable to situational pressure to act inappropriately (The 8 “personality traps”)
