    Robin Schooling, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, is VP of Human Resources with Hollywood Casino in Baton Rouge, LA and has extensive experience in a variety of industries including gaming, banking and health care. She’s a regular speaker at HR, Recruiting, and business conferences, has a popular HR blog at and is on a mission to make organizations better by making HR better

    Business leaders and CEOs want HR leaders to develop, contribute to, and support the mission, vision, values, goals and objectives of their organizations. We do that when we establish key relationships inside the organization, partner in the strategic planning process, and take a lead role in managing the organizational change needed to meet the expectations and needs of the company, its employees, and other stakeholders.

    But HR has a PR problem and it’s more necessary than ever to overcome that stigma as we’re faced with issues including the transformation of the workplace, the rise of employees-as-consumers, and our own – let’s face it – track record. Drawing on research including Deloitte’s (2017) Human Capital Trends we’ll discuss turning this around by (1) clarifying why HR exists (2) articulating what HR does, and (3) focusing on how HR delivers value to the organization.

    There’s a place for exceptional and innovative HR in our future and we’ll cover a few easy tips for having a wildly successful HR career.
