Predicting and Managing Remote Worker Success

by: James T Stodd, MS, SPHR, SHRM-SCP & William Costelloe, PhD

Not too long ago, “remote work” was a viable option only for a few, and a figment of the imagination for the many, but the pandemic has changed all that.  Today, after surge after surge, changes in the preferences and expectations of employees, and a new sense of employee empowerment to negotiate terms and conditions, remote work is not likely to go away any time soon…it is the “new reality”.  So, rather than just coping, accommodating, or pretending that it will all go away, employers need to craft their people strategies to ensure that both their employees and their organizations “thrive” in this new reality.

Fortunately, applied behavioral scientists are working to better understand, shape, and influence the factors and circumstances that contribute to individuals “thriving” in remote work situations.  The purpose of this presentation is to summarize and share what is being discovered about the predictors, sustainers and critical competencies associated with remote worker success.
